Overview
The Occupational Health Office (Service de santé au travail – SST) aims to prevent any work-related impact on staff health and ensures each employee’s working conditions are suited to their individual needs. The occupational physician’s role is to protect the health and safety of staff, acting solely in their best interest through ongoing medical supervision.
During the medical check-up, the occupational physician assesses workplace risks, provides information, screens for potential health issues, recommends personal protective measures and evaluates the employee’s suitability to wear personal protective equipment. The occupational health physician assesses the compatibility between the staff member’s health and their role, and may suggest measures such as work restrictions or adjustments to their duties or workstation.
The occupational health physician also spends part of their time visiting workplaces. This includes carrying out workstation visits, taking part in safety inspections in collaboration with the Risk Prevention, Fire Safety and Environmental Protection Office (Service prévention sécurité environnement – SPSE), and attending meetings about workplace safety. They are also involved in information and training activities, as well as in working groups such as the Disability Support Team (cellule handicap).
