Overview
The Carnot network brings together 39 public research institutes accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. These institutes work together and with industry partners to encourage innovation. They run joint research projects where companies work with public research organisations to solve specific challenges.
Each year, members of the Carnot network sign over 11,000 contracts, file over 1,000 patents and launch over 100 start-ups. These contracts account for 55% of all partnership-based research in France. Institutes in the Carnot network receive government funding based on the income they generate through their collaborative research contracts.
Three laboratories from the University of Strasbourg are part of Carnot MICA, and were accredited in 2020: the Strasbourg Institute of Materials Physics and Chemistry (Institut de physique et chimie des matériaux de Strasbourg – IPCMS), the Laboratory: Institute of Chemistry and Processes for Energy, the Environment and Health (Institut de chimie et procédés pour l'énergie, l'environnement et la santé – ICPEES), and the Charles Sadron Institute (Institut Charles-Sadron – ICS).
The Laboratory of Engineering, Computer Science and Imagery (laboratoire des sciences de l'ingénieur, de l'informatique et de l'imagerie – ICube) is part of the Institut Carnot Télécom et Société numérique (TSN), and was accredited in 2006.
