Studying with a disability

To receive disability support, you will need to make a request. Each student’s needs are assessed on a case-by-case basis. The University Life Office's Disability Support Department (Mission handicap du Service de la vie universitaire – SVU), the Student Health Office (Service de santé étudiante – SSE), the University of Strasbourg Medical and Psychological Support Centre (Centre d'accueil médico-psychologique universitaire de Strasbourg – CAMUS), your teaching team and any relevant external partners will work with you to identify the most suitable solutions.

The university can then offer a range of adjustments and support, including:

  • Human support, such as help with note-taking, help with getting around campus or support with research and library work
  • Technical and technological support, including loan of computers, specialised software, magnifiers, digital voice recorders or adapted equipment
  • Exam adjustments, such as accessible exam rooms, extra time or support from an exam assistant

Important information

  • Submit requests for disability support as early as possible, as processing can take several weeks
  • Requests must usually be renewed each year, although some support arrangements can be approved for an entire degree cycle (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, etc.)

How to make an initial request for disability support

  1. Read the "Première demande d'aménagements" guide and complete the online request form to let the Disability Support Department know about your situation. You will need to provide supporting documents, including recent medical documents and any previous support arrangements. These documents must be uploaded in JPEG, PDF or ZIP format.
  2. The Disability Support Department will review the request based on the documents provided and may invite you to an individual meeting. The team will then prepare a Plan d’accompagnement de l’étudiant handicapé (PAEH), which outlines the support measures and study adjustments adapted to your needs and study programme.
  3. A doctor from the Student Health Office or CAMUS will provide a medical opinion on the requested adjustments. You may be contacted directly to provide additional medical documents or attend a medical appointment.
  4. The head of your faculty, school or institute will sign the official decision and put the support arrangements in place. You will receive a copy of the signed decision document.
  5. Disability representatives or the Academic Administration Office can help with any questions about implementing the support arrangements.
