Fund your studies

Financial support from Crous

You can apply for a means-tested grant, exemption from tuition fees and the Student and Campus Life Contribution (Contribution de vie étudiante et de campus – CVEC) or means-tested financial aid from the Regional Centre for University and Student Services (Centre régional des œuvres universitaires et scolaires – Crous). Complete your Dossier social étudiant as soon as possible. This is the official dossier used to apply for student grants and accommodation in France.

If you are not eligible for a means-tested grant but still need financial assistance, you can contact the Crous social services department (service social du Crous) to apply for an annual allowance (Aide spécifique allocation annuelle).

Scholarships from the Foundation for the University of Strasbourg and the University Hospitals of Strasbourg donors

The Foundation for the University of Strasbourg and the University Hospitals of Strasbourg (Fondation de l'Université et des Hôpitaux universitaires de Strasbourg) awards scholarships to first-year students who meet certain criteria. These scholarships are paid once a year for up to three years. They can be combined with Crous grants and financial aid, but not with other scholarships or paid work (except for occasional, non-regular work).

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree, a University Bachelor of Technology, or a school at the University of Strasbourg
  • Have achieved a mention Bien or Très Bien in the French baccalauréat
  • Be eligible for Crous grants
  • Have an income below the threshold, or be financially dependent on parents or guardians whose income is below the threshold

Financial support in the health and social care sector

The Région Grand Est offers financial support to students in the healthcare sector. This includes grants for health and social care studies, funding for training costs, placement allowances for nursing assistant students and support for medical interns completing placements in priority areas (Zone d'intervention prioritaire – ZIP).

Talent scholarships

If you are enrolled in a Talents preparatory programme (prépa Talents) or at an organisation offering preparation for Category A or B competitive civil service exams (including exams for careers in administration, teaching or public finance), you may be eligible for a Talents scholarship .

Moving away from home

Parcoursup mobility grant

If you are a scholarship holder and are moving to a different academic region for your higher education studies, you may be eligible for the Parcoursup mobility grant.

Master’s mobility grant

If you are a scholarship holder and are moving to a different academic region for a Master’s degree, you may be eligible for the Master’s mobility grant.

Student mobility passport

The student mobility passport (Passeport pour la mobilité des études – PME) covers one round trip per year for students from French overseas territories (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy, French Guiana, Réunion and Mayotte) who are studying:

  • In mainland France
  • In another French overseas territory
  • In a country within the European Union or the European Economic Area as part of a European programme

Students with disabilities

If you have a disability, you may be eligible for specific grants and financial support in addition to the support available to all students.

Temporary financial support

If you are experiencing temporary financial difficulties, you may be eligible for one-off financial support. To find out more, contact the Regional Centre for University and Student Services (Centre régional des œuvres universitaires et scolaires – Crous) or the Mission locale Strasbourg Eurométropole.

If you are a staff member facing temporary financial difficulties, the university may also be able to support you. Find out more on the Staff Social and Cultural Support Office (Service pour la promotion de l'action sociale – SPACS) website.

Housing support

Support from the Caisse d'allocations familiales

The Caisse d'allocations familiales (CAF) offers three types of housing support to help pay your rent: the Aide personnalisée au logement (APL), the Allocation de logement familial (ALF) and the Allocation de logement social (ALS). Eligibility depends on your income.

Support from Action Logement

Action Logement is an organisation that helps people access housing. It offers several types of support, including the Visale guarantee, the AVANCE LOCA-PASS® and the MOBILI-JEUNE® grant for apprentices and work-study students.

Fonds de solidarité pour le logement

If you are not eligible for other forms of support, you may be able to apply for help from the Fonds de solidarité pour le logement (FSL) to cover moving-in costs or housing-related bills.

Housing support for university staff

If you are a staff member at the University of Strasbourg, you may be eligible, under certain conditions (including contract length and household income), for one-off financial support after signing a rental contract and moving in.

Financial support for travel

Discounted rates

Depending on your status and income, you can access reduced rates for bike rentals, public transport in Strasbourg and its surrounding areas, and the TER Grand Est train network. Local associations can also help you find a bike and maintain it at a low cost.

To benefit from reduced prices for certain city services, including public transport, you will need your household income reference (quotient familial unique). The University of Strasbourg’s Student Support and Welfare Office (Mission solidarité) can calculate it for you.

Help with commuting costs

University staff who use environmentally friendly transport (such as cycling, carpooling or electric scooters) can apply for the forfait mobilités durables, a financial contribution towards commuting costs. The university also reimburses 75% of the public transport pass for staff who commute via public transport.

Eating on campus

Students and staff can enjoy affordable lunches and dinners in the university restaurants and cafeterias across campus.

Food, equipment and low-cost essentials

Find clothes, kitchenware, school supplies and more at the solidarity student fair organised each year as part of the “Campus solidaire et durable” welcome event.

Many local associations also provide support with food and everyday essentials, including solidarity grocery shops (épiceries solidaires), vegetable baskets (at Cop1 and Regards solidaires), furniture and appliance rental, La Recyclerie, period underwear and more.

If you are experiencing financial difficulties, you can buy a computer at a reduced price through a partnership between the university's Student Support and Welfare Office (Mission solidarité), Emmaüs connect and the Centre régional des œuvres universitaires et scolaires (Crous). Health and wellbeing

Access free or low-cost healthcare through the Student Health Office (Service de santé étudiante – SSE), the University of Strasbourg Medical and Psychological Support Centre (Centre d'accueil médico-psychologique universitaire de Strasbourg – CAMUS) or partner healthcare providers.
